Sunjay started his professional career as a trainee in the BMW in Munich. In order to gain industry experience, he interned at TRW Koyo in Tennessee during the summer of 1991. He then started working for Sona Koyo Steering Ltd. in the Sona Group’s human resources department in 1996.

He was appointed managing director of Sona Sonic Lemforder Co. and founded Sona e-Design in 2003 to help in the conversion of 2D to 3D design (data migration). Furthermore, in 2005, Kapur founded the car rental company Sixt and took over the Sona Mobility Services Ltd. franchise in India.
